Collection of 12 children’s stories about classical music

In late June 2009, I illustrated this project related to 12 stories for children, about the life of classical composers, told by three characters: Juan, Alex and Daniela. The first step was the creation of these characters: two curious kids, and a bohemian and charismatic old man. After a series of sketches, this was the result:
Character design: Daniela, Alex and Juan.
The second step was to look for information and visual references about the epoch: faces, clothes, objects, and places. The purpose was to represent it, in the most similar way possible, so that the children, not only enjoyed the story but also know how these composers were, the people, the customs, the costumes, the instruments and the cities that were described in each book.

I used traditional and digital techniques to create the characters and backgrounds. For the characters, I made sketches in graphite, scanned them, and then drew the outline on a digitizing tablet. Then applied the fill color to the vector image. I painted the backgrounds with watercolor pencils on the graphite sketches.

I completed the work in mid-November 2009. The collection comprised 12 books, each with 38 pages and a CD of classical music.
