The Buen Retiro Park or El Retiro
El Retiro is one of the largest parks in Madrid, Spain. It is located very close to the Puerta de Alcalá and near to the Museo del Padro. The park has an area of 1.4 square kilometers filled with sculptures, monuments, galleries and a lake. It is one of Madrid’s major attractions, and the site of many events.
Created in 1680, the park belonged to the Spanish Monarchy until the end of the 19th century, when it became public. In 2021, the Buen Retiro Park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the Paseo del Prado.
